"Nihon Teikoku Kaigun"
(Imperial Japanese Navy)
The Imperial Japanese Navy retained 5 pre-dreadnought
battleships. Shikishima, Suwo, Asahi, and Fuji were in service as auxiliaries or stationary
hulks, and Mikasa was preserved as a museum. Asahi was torpedoed by a US submarine, but the
others survived the war. The Imperial Japanese
Navy uses the prefix "HIJMS", which
stands for "His Imperial Japanese Majesty's
Ship".
Due to the inter-war secrecy surrounding
the Imperial Japanese Fleet, pictures from
this time very period are hard to find. If
you have any additional pictures of these
vessels, please E-mail me.
